The weather outside is OH SO FRIGHTFUL!

My peoples - SO sorry to be MIA from updating the production blog but with the winter season and holidays amongst us, scheduling interviews and capturing performance footage is to a lower degree. However, we stay persistant and let the hits keep on coming! Therefore, here's your insight with "That Asian Thing" :

-Many many thanks to Mr. Dobie Maxwell for sitting down with us and giving insight on Asian Americans in comedy. Mr. Maxwell teaches stand-up comedy at Zanies Comedy Club. He's been in the stand-up business for about 20 years and his input was very enlightening. The take I went with this interview touched upon such things as how far can you go with stereotypical jokes, why there aren't that many Asian Americans in comedy, and what Lenny Bruce thinks. Dobie was also very nice enough to let us get some footage of him teaching his stand-up comedy class. So I'd like to thank the class for not being imposed by the presence of me and the Wayne with our solo digital8 camcorder (even though I'm sure they had no clue what we were doing there). Also thanks to Warrick for his assistance and comp tickets to a show at Zanies. Just remember folks, the root of this project is to get the perception of how Asian Americans are in America, so less not forget that in order to get this sort of feedback, you need to interview non-Asian Americans who are experienced in their field. Hence my interview with Mr. Maxwell. His feedback was awesome and very comprehensive, which can totally relate to our topic at hand.

-I'd actually like to thank my family for letting me tape them over our Thanksgiving dinner. This is what I figure about documentaries -- they get a little personal with the person who is in charge of the whole shabang-ah-bang, and in this case that's me. The thing with this is that I'd like to show people what it's like to grow up as an Asian American and reveal some things such as traditions, typical foods, and how we relate with each other. With this aspect, I hope people can understand that customs make races unique from each other and instead of pushing it away because it's the unknown, maybe learning about it will entice a curiosity to try new things. If more people understand the culture, then more people can understand the people, and from that an acceptance can start to grow, therefore widening a slimly opened door to the mainstream. Understand? Good...moving right along...

-with the weather being in single digits of late, on the street interviews aren't looking very promising. I think we'll resume more of this when mother nature lightens up with her winter wand.

-there are more things in the mix, but I'd hate to jinx anything unless it were pretty concrete. However, please believe me as I say that interviews and more footage is being taped. Now if I can only get the flux capacitor to work again...we could travel back in time with our Delorian chugging up to 88 mph....
